Want to avoid stress when remodeling?
There is a lot involved in kitchen remodeling. Going into it prepared will make your experience fun and enjoyable.
How To Remodel Your Kitchen
1. Have a Plan
As with most things, planning is an important step in kitchen remodels. The National Kitchen and Bath Association or NKBA recommends spending up to six months on plans to remodel your kitchen.
2. Get Inspiration
You have to start somewhere. As ambitious as we all may be, we are not likely to come up with innovative, award winning kitchen designs that are practical for everyday use off the tops of our heads.
Reading magazines, online articles, books, and other resources for kitchen remodeling ideas is not only smart, but will save you a lot of time and frustration. Do not limit yourself to the written word. Searching for kitchen remodel photos will give you visuals to work from and help get those creative juice flowing.
3. Learn from Mistakes
Luckily, if you do enough research, you will not have to learn from your own mistakes. Horror stories are out there. Reading them may seem daunting at first, but these horror stories are a valuable resource for learning what not to do and nipping issues in the bud.
Quick Google searches will bring up the most common mistakes. Want an example? Most people get so wrapped up in the design on their kitchen they forget about the functionality. Remember, you still need your kitchen to prepare meals and cook. Installing plenty of outlets along the wall and on islands will save you a lot of trouble.
4. Play to Your Strengths
Remodeling a small kitchen and remodeling a larger kitchen can be very different. These spaces are not equal, and do not make the mistake of treating them that way.
Do not stress if you have a small kitchen. There are tricks for making the most out of limited space. If your ceilings are eight feet tall or less, make sure cabinets go right up to the top. Using all of this space and installing cabinets that reach the ceiling will give you plenty of room for storing pantry items and dishes.
Smaller kitchens also benefit from brighter colors. Dark colors make smaller spaces seem even smaller. Bright or softer shades of color invite natural light and open up smaller rooms.
5. Have Fun
Remodeling your kitchen is a great time to get take out, treat your family to dinner, or let them treat you. This will eliminate clean up and, with your dishwasher out of use, that is good news.
Kitchen remodeling gives you the opportunity to make choices and display your creativity. Make it fun. Helpful info also found here.
love the tips. i was going to paint my small kitchen a deep red, but now i think i may do a little more research. i really like the natural light in the morning, too, wakes me up, so red may not have been the best choice, haha
not bad. i feel like there could be a lot more advice here though. you kind of lean toward what to do with smaller kitchens with number four. what do you with larger ones? i guess there are tons of tips you could give, but i wanted more
